Puff Pastry Cherry Blossoms

January 19, 2012 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love
There are very few pies that I would say I don’t like.  There is something about the contrast of the crust and the filling that I love, especially if it is warm.  When I first saw these cherry blossoms at Get Off Your Butt and Bake, I wondered if pie could get any easier.  With so few ingredients and such a quick assembly this seems like it is possibly the best way to get your pie fix without going to a restaurant. (To give you an idea of how fast they come together…. I started my oven and then started the process.  When my oven beeped to tell me that it was ready, I was already half way through the egg wash step!).
I just used cherry pie filling from a can but if you are more ambitious, a homemade cherry pie filling would make it even more incredible.  My boys and I thought cherry was wonderful but this is definitely something I could see with apples and cinnamon on the inside! My mouth waters just thinking about it…

Puff Pastry Cherry Blossoms

Ingredients

    For the pastries
  • PUFF PASTRY SHEETS
  • CHERRY PIE FILLING
  • 1 EGG, beaten
  • SUGAR
  • For the glaze
  • 1 cup POWDERED SUGAR
  • 1 teaspoon VANILLA
  • 1 1/2 MILK

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and cut them into 9 squares. In each square place one tablespoon of cherry pie filling (about 2 cherries). Bring all of the corners to the center. You will now have four 'vents', gently press to close two of the 'vents', leave the other two open. Brush each with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile mix the glaze ingredients until smooth. Remove cherry blossoms from the oven and drizzle glaze on them while still warm. ENJOY!!!!

These sound so wonderful. I love puff pastry. Palmiers are something I have been meaning to make again, but these might inch above them in the list.
