SRC: Cookies In A Jar

December 12, 2011 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love

Today is SRC reveal day and day 8 in our 12 Days of Christmas Treats series.  What is SRC?  It stands for Secret Recipe Club – you can find out all about it here.

Our Christmas Treats so far:
Day 1: Glazed Eggnog Cookies

Day 2: Salted Chocolate Tartlets
Day 3: Peanut Buster Caramel Bars
Day 4: Rolo Pretzel Turtles
Day 5: Snickers Popcorn
Day 6: Candy Cane Mint Milanos
Day 7: Toffee Crunch
I had the privilege of being assigned the blog of Tina, who is our group’s hostess each and every month.  She works hard to make each month another successful reveal of our group’s recipes.  Tina also keeps busy with her blog, not only is she our hostess for SRC, she hosts her own monthly Crazy Cooking Challenge and a weekly link up called This Week’s Cravings.  Whew!  She’s one busy lady.
I wanted to go with a treat to fit our series.  I had several choices: White Chocolate Spice Cookies, Nut Clusters, Chocolate Peanut Butter Mallow Bars or Grandma’s Hundred Dollar Fudge.  Finally, I decided on Cookies in a Jar because it never hurts to have a quick homemade gift for teachers, neighbors, etc.  This time of year I think people enjoy getting something that doesn’t have to be eaten right away.  This mix could easily be saved until a cold January evening when the recipient is craving a warm, delicious cookie without much work.

Another reason I was drawn to this idea is that I have a serious love for glass jars of any kind.  Seriously, that’s what my cupboard is full of – I use them as drinking glasses, for measuring liquids, as vases, for storing anything and everything and also for gifting snack mixes, freshly roasted coffee beans, etc.  You can make as many of these as you need.  You will be using quart jars for this, preferably wide mouth.  If you need a few, your local Goodwill is a great place to find them for pretty cheap.  If your lids are nice, you can decorate these simply with a ribbon.  You can also put fabric or wrapping paper under the lid ring before screwing it on.  Printable instructions to include with the jar follow the recipe below.
Printable Recipe Here
2 cups FLOUR
1/2 teaspoon BAKING SODA
1/4 teaspoon SALT
3/4 cup BROWN SUGAR, packed
1/4 cup WHITE SUGAR
1 1/2 cups CHOCOLATE CHIPS, CANDIES, ETC.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt.  Put flour mixture in the bottom of a quart jar.  Layer the rest of the ingredients as listed above.
I made three different kinds – one with M&Ms and chocolate chips, one with Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips and one with chocolate chips and toffee bits.  The ones that I actually baked had Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips and chocolate chips – that was a winning combination for sure!

Click on the instructions above to print them out to include with each jar.

I’m glad I’m not the only one hoarding glass jars at my house! I had to start hiding them from my husband so he wouldn’t make fun of me! This is such a cute idea for the holidays. Yay SRC!

Our cupboards probably look preeeeeetty similar! I think I have glass jars and mason jars in every size and shape. If you open a cupboard too fast, random clanky little tin lids might come crashing down on you. Anyway! LOVE these, love love love them!
