A Rubber Ducky Themed First Birthday Party

This week we celebrate Maddux’s first birthday!  Last weekend both of our families were able to come to town to help us celebrate.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we able to spend time outside enjoying fall and each others company.
Of course, planning the kids’ birthday parties is something I love to do and this one was no different.  After looking around the internet and pinterest we settled on a rubber ducky themed party and it was wonderful!  Here is some of what we did…..

INVITATIONS

For the invitations I embossed a rubber duck and ‘you’re invited’ on card stock and arranged them on an invitation.  I also punched out white circles, then using a blue stamp I brushed the sides of them to create bubbles.  On the inside I typed out the party details and arranged a few more bubbles.

FOOD

As you know, I LOVE SOUP!  So for this party we decided to have a few different soups.  Our parents volunteered to help us make the soup, which was great so that I didn’t have to make them all in my kitchen.  We had Cream Cheese Potato Soup, Zuppa Toscana, Tomato Artichoke, and my Dad’s chili.  Then we had fritos, rolls, soup crackers, and cheese to accompany the soups.  I knew that the kids wouldn’t all want the soup.  So I made peanut butter sandwiches and cut them with a duck shaped cookie cutter.  We also served sliced apples with Caramel Apple Dip.

For dessert, I made the White Almond Cupcakes with the Best Birthday Party Frosting.  I colored the frosting blue, sprinkled with Wilton Pearl Sprinkles (to be the bubbles), and topped it off with a small rubber ducky.  They were adorable!  Jonah also helped me make candy.  We bought a duck mold and candy melts in yellow and chocolate.  Layering them was easy and the kids loved them.  AND… Becca made a Slab Cherry Pie!!
DECORATIONS

The only thing I did for decorations was make a banner.  I was at a baby shower about a month ago and saw one of these that someone made.  I have burlap that I cut into triangles.  Then I cut out the letters of Maddux’s name and hand stitched them on the triangles.  Then I sewed ribbon at the top.  Now that the party is over, I will probably hang it in his room (and have already had a request from Jonah for one with his name)!
