Simple Recipe Organization

Today’s Step: Clean those toys!  Take all the ones from yesterday that you’re keeping around, toss the plastic ones in a simple solution of dish soap and hot water.  Rinse with clean water and towel dry.  If you really want them sanitized, throw some on the top rack of your dishwasher to be cleaned during the next run.




If you are like me, it is like Christmas morning when you open your mailbox to find the latest Everyday Food Magazine.  I usually spend the next few days reading it and deciding on some new things to try.  Then it gets put on the shelf with all of the past issues of the magazine and the rest of my frequently used cookbooks.
Then comes the problem!  I can think of the recipe…. but everytime I find myself having to search multiple issues to find the one that I’m looking for.  Even though the corners of the pages have been folded over or I have stuck I bookmark on the pages I like, there are still too many to search through!
So today I am going to show you my newest way to organize my magazines and cookbooks to make finding my recipes much easier.  All you need is the Post-It Note Page Markers and a pen.

Then I sat down and went through the magazines and cookbooks that I wanted to do this with.  Each time I came across a recipe that I wanted to mark I wrote the name of it on a Post-It Note Page Markers.  Then placed it at the top of the page mostly sticking out of the book.  If there are multiple recipes in one magazine or book, I staggared the strips so they are easier to read. 
If you want to go a step further, you can separate them by using different colors.  There are many ways you could do this, such as by type of food (appetizer, entree, dessert), main ingredient, or by type of information, which is what I did.  I used orange/yellow for actual recipes, pink for an informational page (such as a page that says how to buy, store, and use beets), and blue for good ideas (such as home decorations, or ‘crafty’ was to decorate food or meals).

    I save all my recipes online. I use stumbleupon to create a visual recipe box and I tag each recipe with the proper tags. So whenever I’m in the mood to browse recipes I can pick a category and I’m good to go.
